Via Baltica nearing completion. „Changes to traffic organization will be necessary.”

By the end of September, motorists will have access to the Łomża bypass along the S61 route. This development allows for rapid travel over the 310-kilometer stretch of the Via Baltica – from Warsaw to the Lithuanian border – as announced by road officials.
The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways stated that prior to the activation of the last section of Via Baltica, „alterations in traffic management will be required.”
Via Baltica nearing completion
„In mid-September, we intend to redirect traffic from the roadway currently in use towards Warsaw to the lane leading to Budzisko. Drivers will share one roadway for both directions, similar to the present arrangement. A speed limit of 60-80 km/h will be enforced. The Łomża bypass will be operational as a dual carriageway expressway by the end of September,” the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) reported.
They further clarified that „the intended traffic rerouting will facilitate additional sealing of the concrete surface of the bridge spanning the river section and safeguard it against water infiltration.”
The announcement mentioned that „gantries are currently being set up, which will host traffic management system devices,” and that „the construction of retention basins to ensure proper drainage of the road, along with the installation of fencing nets and finishing touches, is ongoing.”

Via Baltica from Warsaw to Tallinn
„The development of the S61 expressway represents an investment that holds significance not only for Poland’s road network but also for Europe as a whole,” emphasized the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA).
They noted that „by linking with the S8 expressway connecting Wrocław – Warsaw – Białystok, it establishes the international transport corridor Via Baltica (from Warsaw to Budzisko)” and „eventually it will handle transit traffic between Western Europe and the Baltic nations.”

Construction not limited to the expressway
„Alongside the two 'Eska’ roadways (each featuring two lanes plus an emergency lane) and the associated infrastructure, a single-carriageway segment of national road no. 64 is also under construction,” the road officials revealed.
They added that „this section, being constructed along a new route, spans nearly 7 km” and „this year, the segment from the Łomża Północ junction to Marianów (3 km) is expected to be completed, and by mid-next year, from Marianów to Elżbiecin (4 km) will be finalized.”
