Eurostat – unemployment for January 2025. How did Poland fare?

In January, the unemployment rate in Poland was 2.6 percent, down from 2.7 percent in December, according to Eurostat. Poland, alongside the Czech Republic, posted the lowest unemployment rate in the entire European Union, while Spain experienced the highest rate.
As of January 2025, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the eurozone remained at 6.2 percent, unchanged from December 2024. In January 2024, the rate was recorded at 6.5 percent.
The overall unemployment rate for the EU stood at 5.8%, with no changes observed compared to December 2024. In January 2024, this figure was 6.1%.
Eurostat estimates indicate that in January 2025, there were 12.824 million unemployed individuals in the EU, including 10.655 million within the euro area.
Compared to December 2024, unemployment decreased by 8,000 in the EU, and by 42,000 in the eurozone. When compared to January 2024, the EU saw a reduction of 510,000 unemployed, while the euro area noted a drop of 547,000.

Poland and the Czech Republic recorded the lowest unemployment rates in the European Union, both at 2.6 percent. Other nations with low unemployment included Malta (3 percent), Slovenia (3.3 percent), and Germany (3.5 percent).
The highest unemployment rates were found in Spain (10.4%), Sweden (8.9%), and both Finland and Greece (8.7%).

Unemployment rate according to Eurostat
Eurostat defines the harmonised unemployment rate as the proportion of individuals aged 15-74 who are unemployed, available to work within the next two weeks, and have actively sought employment in the past few weeks, relative to the total number of economically active individuals in a country. These statistics may differ from those provided by the Central Statistical Office.
The Central Statistical Office reported that the unemployment rate in January 2025 was 5.4 percent.
