On August 7, the WIG20 broke its 2008 record and reached over 3,000 points. The WSE is seeing gains.

The WIG20 index has surpassed the 3,000-point threshold, achieving its highest value since 2008, as announced by Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański on Thursday. He highlighted that the index’s 37 percent growth this year illustrates the robust state of the Polish economy, with significant gains observed among banking institutions.
The historical peak for WIG20 is 3,940.53 points, recorded on October 29, 2007.
„WIG20 has surpassed the 3,000-point level and reached its highest point since 2008! The 37% surge in the index this year reflects, among other factors, the resilience of the Polish economy: rapid GDP growth alongside decreasing inflation,” Minister Domański stated on Platform X.
Record achievement on the WSE
Among various sectors, banks experienced significant increases. Alior rose by 5.47%, Pekao increased by 4.24%, and PKO BP saw a 2.57% rise. The stock price of PZU also climbed by 3.50%. The only entity with a declining stock price was Orlen, which saw a decrease of 0.28%.
On Thursday morning, the WIG20 opened at 2,934.63 points, up by 0.07 percent. The index crossed the 3,000-point level at 10:20 a.m., and around midday, the rate of increase slowed, with the WIG20 advancing by 2.08 percent to reach 2,993.56 points.
As of approximately 2:30 p.m., the WIG20 stands at 2,988.63 points, reflecting a 1.91% increase.
