President Andrzej Duda announces convening of the National Security Council

President Andrzej Duda declared the assembly of the National Security Council, focusing on energy security matters.
During a joint press conference on Tuesday with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Andrzej Duda remarked that the power failure in Spain serves as „a sort of warning signal, since power grids are a highly sensitive component of the energy infrastructure.”
He stated that he will call for a meeting of the National Security Council regarding this issue. – I have resolved to convene the National Security Council soon, (…) as I wish to explore the security of the Polish energy system and our energy grid with our partners, especially once we gather information about the reasons behind the outage in Spain – Duda elaborated.
– We inquired with the Spanish government representative, the minister, if he could provide further details regarding the reasons for this significant outage, what exactly led to it. He mentioned that they are still in the process of investigating, and that it is likely a combination of various factors – the president noted.
Significant power outage on the Iberian Peninsula
On Monday, Spain and Portugal faced a considerable power outage. According to the Portuguese transmission operator Ren, the outages in Portugal stemmed from a failure in the Spanish grid.
By 7 a.m. on Tuesday, 99.95 percent of the electricity supply in Spain had been restored, as confirmed by national grid operator Red Electrica. The cause of the outage remains undetermined.
