Domański: energy prices for households will not rise until the year’s end TVN24

The Ministry of Climate is developing a new model for household electricity bills. The aim is to enhance transparency. The proposed changes have been published in the legislative and programmatic works list of the Council of Ministers. It also encompasses support for the advancement of renewable energy sources (RES).

This pertains to a draft law amending specific laws to deregulate the energy sector.

The Ministry of Climate and Environment is tasked with formulating these changes, with the government set to adopt the project by the second quarter of 2025.

Energy bills made clearer

According to the information available on the KPRM website, the proposed change aims to ensure that household electricity bills are clearer. The bill’s first page will feature a summary of key information, including the total amount due displayed prominently. This is intended to assist consumers in comprehending the structure of energy charges.

The initiative also aims to transform the primary mode of communication between energy companies and consumers to an electronic format.

At the same time, consumers will have the option to request correspondence in paper form, which is designed to safeguard the interests of those who are digitally marginalized.

Encouragement for renewable energy sources development

Proposed changes also aim to bolster the development of renewable energy sources. A key component is to expand the so-called cable pooling formula (allowing shared energy connections) to include the utilization of energy storage facilities. This will facilitate more efficient use of the current power infrastructure and improved management of energy surpluses.

Moreover, there are plans to raise the threshold of installed electric capacity requiring a license for electricity generation from 1 MW to 5 MW. These installations will need to be registered, similar to small installations.

Additionally, it is proposed that the threshold for installed power that permits the construction of a photovoltaic installation without needing a building permit be increased from 150 kW to 500 kW, as long as the installation is solely for the company’s own electricity consumption.
