New electricity tariffs. We know the government's plans

New household electricity rates are set to take effect starting October 1, 2025, rather than July 1, based on the proposed amendments to the Energy Consumers Protection Act that were released on Monday.
According to the details outlined in the legislative and programmatic work list from the Council of Ministers, the implementation of the revised electricity tariffs has been scheduled for October 1, 2025.
The existing regulations stipulate that suppliers acting ex officio must submit requests to the President of the Energy Regulatory Office for tariff changes in time for them to take effect on July 1.
Justifications for delaying the deadline
The Ministry of Climate and Environment highlighted in the rationale for the proposal that delaying the start date for the revised electricity tariffs will enable a more comprehensive reflection of market conditions within these rates.
The Ministry of Climate and Environment pointed out that the current wholesale prices, ranging from PLN 400-500 per MWh, „suggest opportunities for reducing electricity tariffs set by suppliers acting as ex officio sellers to households”.
Under the existing regulations, households will benefit from frozen electricity prices at PLN 500 until the end of September 2025. The government has yet to make a decision regarding the extension of the frozen price.
