Next Sunday, April 13, the stores will be open

On the final Sunday prior to Easter, April 13, stores will be operational. The subsequent shopping Sundays will occur on: the week following the holidays, April 27, and June 29.

On Sunday, April 13, retail businesses will be open. This year’s upcoming shopping Sundays include: April 27, June 29, August 31, December 7, December 14, and December 21.

Sunday shopping in 2025

The legislation progressively instituting the Sunday trading prohibition took effect on March 1, 2018. Starting in 2020, the trading ban applies only on seven Sundays each year: the last Sundays of January, April, June, and August, along with the Sunday before Easter, and following an amendment, also the three consecutive Sundays leading up to Christmas.

The law that limits Sunday trading includes a list of 32 exceptions. The prohibition does not apply, for example, to postal services, provided that the income from this activity constitutes at least 40% of the sales revenue of the respective establishment. It also excludes bakeries, ice cream shops, fuel stations, florists, newsstands, and cafés.

Breaking the Sunday trading prohibition can result in fines ranging from PLN 1,000 to PLN 100,000, and in cases of repeated infractions, a restriction of liberty penalty may apply.

Modifications to the trading ban

As of February 1, an amendment became effective, designating December 24 as a day off for all workers, including those in retail establishments, who previously – according to the Act on Restrictions on Sunday and Public Holiday Trade – worked on Christmas Eve until 2 p.m. This year, the three Sundays leading up to Christmas Eve will be designated for trading. The amendment also stipulates that in December, a retail employee cannot work more than two Sundays.

At the end of December last year, President Andrzej Duda opted to submit the act regarding a free Christmas Eve to the Constitutional Tribunal for further examination. The president’s concerns relate to the introduction of an additional third working Sunday in December for trade employees.
