Mikosz: Polish Post has reached the brink of TVN24

The Management Board of Poczta Polska has resolved to grant an annual bonus in the latter half of this year. – This bonus pertains to 2025 and is intended for employees who have so far been included in the Company Collective Labor Agreement (ZUZP), stated the company’s president, Sebastian Mikosz. Poczta plans to allocate PLN 200 million for this purpose.

– The Management Board of Poczta Polska has opted to conclude the Voluntary Leave Program, which has been in effect since January, along with the group layoff initiative – remarked Mikosz. He mentioned that the company is currently assessing the outcomes of these programs, which „stir emotions among employees”.

Activities of the Post Office

– The measures we announced are beginning to take shape. We have recently published new bonus guidelines – he noted. On March 4 of this year, the company’s management opted to implement the Remuneration Regulations along with the associated process of Group Amendment Notices. The Collective Labour Agreement, which was terminated by the management board over six months ago, ceased to be in effect at the end of February. This document, originating from 2015, was deemed by the management board to lack equitable, market-oriented principles for remuneration and bonuses. Concurrently, since January, the management board has been in discussions with unions regarding the Remuneration Regulations.

The deadline for the unions to present their views on the draft regulations was March 3rd. Both representative unions within the company, namely postal „Solidarity” and the Postal Workers’ Union, voiced negative feedback regarding the management’s proposal concerning the regulations. Nevertheless, they expressed their willingness to continue discussions on the labor agreement under certain conditions.

Alongside the resolution to adopt the Remuneration Regulations, the Management Board of Poczta Polska has chosen to commence Group Amendment Notices.

Announcement of group layoffs

– Employees who opted not to participate in the Voluntary Redundancy Program (VRP) will be subject to group layoffs, as previously announced – stated Sebastian Mikosz. He reminded that the company had planned for a 15% reduction in its workforce – Almost 90% of those to whom we offered the VRP this year accepted it. Additionally, a significant number of employees opted for retirement. Close to 1,000 individuals left the Post Office as they received alternative job offers, allowing the company to achieve its optimal staffing levels – he added.

According to company data, from November 2024 until the end of February 2025, Poczta Polska’s workforce declined by less than 6.3 thousand, now totaling just over 51.6 thousand employees. Mikosz mentioned that concurrently, the Post Office is in the process of modifying employment contracts.

– Employees will receive amended agreements, and those who decline to accept them will be issued amending notices. Should they refuse the amending notice, it will become a final notification. We anticipate that although the new conditions do not imply a reduction in salaries and many employees will actually benefit from them, there will regrettably be individuals unwilling to accept the new terms and will depart – he clarified. Simultaneously, the company is conducting recruitment efforts. „Currently, there are nearly 1,000 job openings, encompassing both operational and administrative roles – he stated.

Decision regarding the annual bonus payment

Mikosz announced that the board has also resolved to distribute an annual bonus during the latter half of this year. – This bonus is for 2025, intended for employees who were previously included in the Company Collective Labor Agreement (ZUZP), who will remain with the company from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. The bonus will cover the timeframe from January through September 30 of this year – the president clarified. He noted that periods of sick leave will not be factored into the calculation of this benefit.

– The Collective Labour Agreement encompassed over 90% of the workforce. We aim for employees to avoid financial losses. I reiterate that the source of reduced personnel costs is through employment cuts, not salary reductions – he emphasized. When asked about the amount Poczta Polska would allocate for bonuses, he replied: „in the vicinity of over PLN 200 million”. – When divided among approximately 45 thousand employees, this results in an average of PLN 4,800 gross per individual – he added.

Limited support from certain trade unions. „We are under pressure”

The President of the Post Office highlighted that the ongoing changes within the company do not have unanimous backing from all trade unions. – The union membership in the Post Office stands at 50 percent. The largest group among union members consists of postal workers. In this context, it should be emphasized that 50 percent of the staff does not acknowledge representation by the unions. The negotiation approach of the representative unions to date, namely postal Solidarity and the Postal Workers’ Union, has sought to maintain the status quo, reducing discussions to the location of the last negotiations held. Rather than engaging in genuine and constructive dialogue, we are facing external pressure, fueled by certain media and political influences, all under the watchful eye of cameras – assessed Mikosz.
